Narraguagus River canoe trip
(Spring trips only)
The
upper Narraguagus is an attractive river that is as wild and untamed as
any in Eastern Maine. We will be paddling canoes starting near Deer Lake on
Saturday and ending the canoe trip on Sunday at the Route 193 Bridge in
Deblois, Maine. This section of the Narraguagus has a total drop of 230 feet
and with the exception of a three mile paddle down Beddington Lake has a
good current for the entire trip. The white water on this trip is mostly
class 1 and 2 (easy to novice levels). Rock Dam Rips is the only class 3
rapid on the trip, we will scout this section and decide if we will run,
line or portage the rapid. This adventure is a 2-day 1-night trip and will
cover approximately 25 miles of some of the nicest country in Eastern Maine.
This guided Maine canoeing adventure includes all equipment, meals and shuttle.
You supply just your own sleeping bag, ground pad, clothing and other
personal items.
Price is $220. per person
(Ask about our discounts for groups of 5 or more!)

The East Machias
Canoe Trip

Join
us for this overnight canoe trip of one of eastern Maine’s beautiful hidden
gems, Rocky Lake and The East Machias River. This is a great canoe camping
trip of about 20 miles and is an excellent mixture of scenic lakes, river
and stream paddling. We start the trip at Rocky Lake early Saturday morning
and end at Hadley Lake on Sunday afternoon. The white water on this trip is
perfect for the beginner it gets progressively harder on the second day but
never exceeds class 2 levels. This is a fine late spring canoeing trip for the entire
family! This guided Maine canoe trip includes all equipment, meals and shuttle. You
supply just your own sleeping bag, ground pad, clothing and other personal
items.

Spednik Lake
Canoe Trip
With
this Maine canoeing trip we will spend 2+ days and 2 nights camping,
canoeing and exploring the many isolated coves and islands along the
shoreline of beautiful Spednik Lake. Spednik is a large lake, which forms
the boundary between Maine and New Brunswick, Canada. The shores of the lake
are mostly wild with few camps, roads or other signs of development. We
often see moose, loons, ducks and many other forms of wildlife on this trip.
You can easily extend this canoe trip by adding the following St. Croix
River trip to its end for a great 5-day & 4-night adventure! This guided
Maine canoe trip includes all equipment, meals and shuttle. You supply just your
own sleeping bag, ground pad, clothing and other personal items.
Price is $300 per person
(Ask about our discounts for groups of 5 or more!)

St. Croix River
Canoe Trip
This
great Maine canoe trip starts just below the dam at the outlet of Spednik
Lake in the small town of Vanceboro, Maine. The dam provides a constant flow
of water on the St. Croix throughout the summer even when most other rivers
in Maine are too low for canoeing. The left shore of the river is New
Brunswick, Canada, we will be following the international boundary for the
entire trip! The St. Croix river is a great river for canoe camping and
learning whitewater skills. The river has a good current for most of the
trip with many easy rapids followed by sections that are an easy float.
There is a short rapid called Little Falls that is usually rated at class 2
or 3 at summer water levels, we will portage the gear and then you can run
the falls if you want to with an empty canoe. This section of the river has
a number of nice well-maintained campsites! We often see bald eagles, moose,
white tailed deer, turtles and beaver on this trip. The Bass fishing can
also be very good at times. This 3 day/2 night guided Maine canoe trip includes
all equipment, meals and shuttle. You supply just your own sleeping bag,
ground pad, clothing and other personal items. This trip can easily be
extended by adding the above Spednik Lake trip to its start for a great 5
day canoe trip!
Price is $330 per person
(Ask about our discounts for groups of 5 or more!)

Wyman Lake Canoe
Trip
Spring, Summer and Fall trips!
Wyman is a beautiful lake formed by the damming
of the Kennebec River in the town of Bingham with one of Maine's largest
hydroelectric dams. The reservoir formed by this dam is 15 miles long and
about a mile wide extending up the river valley to the small village of
Caratunk. We start our guided trips near the dam and paddle our way
northward up the river valley with a stop at beautiful Houston Brook Falls
to have lunch and go for a swim if it is a warm day. We may camp on one of
the
islands in the middle of the lake or possibly on the western shore at a
number of wilderness type campsites. On day two after a
big breakfast of pancakes with homemade maple syrup we will load up the
canoes and continue northward to a stream on the western shore called
Carrying Place Stream. This is the site where Benedict Arnold and his
expeditionary force left the Kennebec in October of 1775 and began their
portage following native trails through to the Dead River on his march and
winter siege of Quebec. We can hike upstream a ways to have lunch and
explore a few pretty waterfalls and ledge slides covered with mosses and
ferns. We will arrive at the take out at the northern end of the lake by mid
afternoon.
This guided Maine canoe trip includes all equipment, meals and shuttle. You
supply just your own sleeping bag, ground pad, clothing and other personal
items.
Price is $200 per person
(Ask about our discounts for groups of 5 or more!)
This Wyman Lake canoe trip is also offered as a self guided
adventure! We will provide the canoes, paddles, lifejackets and shuttle to
the put in along with a map with the campsites and some great places to
explore. You will need your own camping equipment and food. There is a
camping fee that may be collected nightly at the campsite by a representative of F.L.P. Energy Maine Hydro (the property owners and operators of the
hydroelectric station) The rates in the past have been five dollars per
person per night with children fourteen years old and younger free!
Price is $25 per person per day

Kenduskeag Stream Canoe Trip
early spring only
Canoe or kayak the choice is yours for
this early spring trip. The Kenduskeag Stream can only be run during the high water conditions, which are usually found for a couple of weeks in
the early spring. The very popular Kenduskeag-to-Bangor Canoe race is held on
Saturday a week or two before this when the water is much higher and it follows the same route as our
trip. The first 6 miles are all flat water with occasional riffles and a
good current to Six Mile Falls, the only harder (class 2+) rapid on the trip.
The falls can easily be portaged or if you want to try running it, we
can show you the best route to go! The next 3 miles to the take out in
Bangor’s Kenduskeag Park are a fun mix of quick water with a few easy rapids.
This has been our first guided trip of the season for the last few years
and has always been a lot of fun! This 9-mile guided Maine adventure includes
all equipment, snack and shuttle back to your vehicle.
Price is only $35 per person!

St. George River Canoe Trip
available all summer and fall
There are many fun possibilities for Canoeing on the St. George River!
The St. George is very near Camden and Rockland on the mid coast of
Maine. We like a nice flat water trip starting at the boat launch on Seven
Tree Pond. We paddle up into nearby Round Pond to explore then work our way
back down river thru Seven Tree and White Oak Ponds to the take out at
the Middle Road Bridge in Warren. A second nice trip on the St. George
is our “Tidal Trip” which starts in the village in Warren and goes with
the outgoing tide downriver to the boat launch in Thomaston. This trip
is also mostly flat water but can have a few easy rips depending on the
level and direction of the tidewater that day. These guided adventures
include all equipment, snack and a shuttle back to your vehicle. These
trips can also be done using our kayaks if you would prefer.
Price is $45 per person

Piscataquis River Canoe Trip
Spring only or after heavy rains
This one of
Steve's favorite trips! We will be paddling a section of the
Piscataquis River between the towns of Blanchard and Abbott. This trip
can be done with canoes or kayaks the choice is yours. The trip will
begin just below the village of Blanchard at a place called Barrows
Falls. The falls flow through a beautiful slate gorge with high cliffs
on either side. We will portage the more difficult first part of the falls, which can
have a class 4 rating at spring levels and put in at the entrance to the
gorge where the rating is an easy class 2. The river for the next 8 miles is
a nearly continuous mix of class 1 & 2 rapids, whitewater and fast current. The
Piscataquis River is quite shallow here and is more like a large stream,
it is very remote with no roads until
we near the take out. This trip is a fine spring canoe trip that is best suited
for the intermediate level canoeist. This guided Maine canoe trip is about 8
miles and includes all equipment, shuttle and lunch. If you would like
you can usually pick a few fiddlehead ferns along the shore to take home
for supper, they are a delicious springtime delicacy !
Price is $45 per person

Pleasant River Canoe Trip
spring only
Canoe
or Kayak the choice is yours for this fun 11-mile adventure! Anyone
joining us on this trip will quickly see where the “Pleasant” River gets
its name. The trip starts in the town of Brownville, Maine with a number
of easy class 1 rapids, rips and quick water. The first five miles are
mostly shallow quick water and pass through a fantastic countryside. The
next 5 miles the character of the river gradually changes to sand bars
and deep slow moving current with large trees hanging out over the
river. We will join the Piscataquis River and paddle down river for
about a mile to the take out point. This is a good trip for the beginner
to learn the techniques of handing a canoe in moving water! This guided
Maine canoe trip includes all
equipment, lunch and shuttle back to your vehicle.
Price is $45 per person

Narraguagus River Canoe Trip
spring or after heavy rains
We
will be paddling canoes on this trip starting in the town of Deblois and
ending the day in Cherryfield. This lower part of the Narraguagus
provides the canoeist with an excellent variety of water conditions. The
trip begins with flat water, which gradually picks up speed as it winds
through a wooded valley. The river eventually has two easy class 2
rapids that are soon followed by Little Falls, which is also rated at
class 2 but is a little more of a challenge due to its length of about
100 yards. We will stop for lunch on the ledges above the falls where we
will get a chance to scout the rapid for the best route. There are three
other short easy class 2 rapids in the next 2 miles below Little Falls
then it is flat water the remaining 4 miles to the take out at
Stillwater Dam in the town of Cherryfield, Maine. This trip is about 15
miles and will take a full day. The Narraguagus is a great river for
learning whitewater canoe handling skills and also for viewing wildlife.
We have in past canoeing trips seen so many bald eagles that we have
lost count often viewing them 3 or 4 at a time. Includes all equipment,
lunch and shuttle.
Price is $50 per person

Roach River Canoe Trip
spring or after heavy rains
This
exciting Maine canoe trip on the Roach River starts about 20 miles north
of Greenville in the small village of KoKadjo. (Population “not many” as
the sign at the edge of the village proudly states) The Roach River is
well known by fishermen as one of Maine’s outstanding fly fishing rivers
for Brook Trout and Landlocked Salmon. The well kept secret about this
river though is that it is an excellent 6 mile whitewater run of mostly
class 2 rapids! The current is fast with no flat water until we reach
Spencer Cove on Moosehead Lake where we will paddle about a mile to the
take out. The State of Maine owns a corridor along this river on both
sides protecting it from future development. This canoe trip is best
suited for the intermediate level of canoeist and can be done with a
canoe or kayak the choice is yours. This guided 4 hour Maine adventure
includes all equipment, snack and shuttle back to your vehicle.
Price is $45 per person

Kennebec River Canoe Trip
"The Forks Trip"
All summer and fall!
This guided Maine canoe trip on the Kennebec River
starts in the village of The Forks. We meet at about noon and wait
in our canoes or kayaks for the water level to rise with the release from the
dam at Harris station, which is about 12 miles up river. The water will rise
about 3 feet in about 15 minutes! The current is fast with quick water, easy rips and class
1 rapids for the first 8 miles then a mile of easy paddling on beautiful Wyman Lake to the
take out in Caratunk. This fun canoe trip is about 9 miles and takes about
3 hours to complete. This is a great trip for learning how to handle a canoe
on moving water, the rapids are easy and are fine for the beginner or
families with small children. We use
very stable Old Town Otter and Loon kayaks as well as Old Town Discovery 169
canoes for our trips. These guided Maine canoe trips include all equipment, a snack and
shuttle back to your vehicle.

Penobscot
River Canoe Adventure
(The "Head of tide" trip)
Spring, Summer and Fall
trips!
The Penobscot River in Bangor, Maine has some of the highest tides in the
U.S. with a tidal range of about 16 feet!
This is caused by the funnel shape of Penobscot Bay which magnifies the tide
as you go up river. With this fun trip we start upriver from Bangor in the
town of Eddington at the "Head of Tide". If we start the trip near high tide
this is nearly all flat water for the 2 miles trip downriver to Bangor. If
we start the trip near low tide there is a lot of quick water with 3
sections of rapids that are probably about a class 2 (intermediate level)
rating. We often do this trip in the early evening arriving at the Bangor
docks a little after sunset allowing us to enjoy the setting sun from the
water. We take out near the Sea Dog Restaurant and Pub which is on the
rivers edge and has great food and beer that is brewed on site in their
microbrewery, its a great place to spend the evening! This trip normally
takes an hour or two, we explore a few unique places along the way and play
in the rapids if the tides are right. Check with us if your interested in
this trip with either the flat water or whitewater paddling and I can check
the tides to see when we can make it work. This guided trip includes all
equipment and shuttle to the put in upriver. If you would like to check the
times of high and low tides in Bangor click on this link:

starts in the town of Sidney and we explore
our way downriver to Maines capital city of Augusta.
The current is
slow moving with a few waves and an occasional easy rip as we near
the head of tide in Augusta.
We will take out in the park by Historic Fort Western which was
built in 1754 and now houses a museum that is open to the public.
