West Outlet Canoe Trip
This trip meets early in the morning at our Caratunk office where we will shuttle you to our launch site with our van. This canoe trip starts at the head waters of the Kennebec River. We will put our canoes in below the dam at Moosehead Lake and run about 10 miles downriver to Indian Pond. The river includes a series of small ponds each one connected with a section of quick water and easy rapids. We will set up camp on one of the islands at Indian Pond and can then spend some time fishing, swimming, exploring or just kicking back and relaxing next to the camp fire. Your guide Steve will prepare a hearty meal usually over an open campfire. On day two of this trip we will paddle about 10 miles down Indian Pond stopping to picnic along the way. This section has good fishing and the trip can accommodate those who wish to fish. We will arrive at the Indian Pond Campground by mid afternoon. After setting up camp at the small wilderness campground there will be time for exploration, swimming and fishing. The Hydro electric dam is within walking distance from the campground and is an impressive sight to see. On day three Tammy will pick us up in the morning and shuttle us past the heavy class IV rapids in the gorge below the dam. Then we will put in and paddle a nine mile section of the Kennebec featuring quick water and class I rapids. The trip ends with a few miles of lake paddling ending back at our campground office. All equipment and meals are included. You will just need your own sleeping bag, ground pad and personal items.
The cost of this adventure is $500 per person (all our adventures are based on four guests. If we have fewer than 4 the price will be billed for four people)
