Kennebec River Tubing
Guided "The Forks Trip"
(June thru early September weekdays only)
Our
most popular Kennebec River tubing adventure nicknamed “The Forks Trip”
starts at a village on the Kennebec River called “The Forks”. The Forks
is at the confluence of the Dead and Kennebec Rivers and is a "Mecca"
for the whitewater enthusiast in Maine. We will be tubing from The Forks
to the Appalachian Trail crossing in Caratunk a distance of about 8
miles. These trips are pretty much an easy float; the river is generally
shallow with good current and occasional class 1 (easy) rapids for the
entire way. The river is very scenic in this area and makes for a fun
filled afternoon trip for the entire family. This is a great fun family
adventure! This guided Maine tubing trip includes a custom designed
river tube, life jacket, a snack break on the river and shuttle back to your
vehicle. Kids from 5 to 75 years old have loved this trip!
Four person minimum for trip. (Available on weekdays only)
Price is $55 per person (children under 12 are $45)
Self Guided Tube Rentals "The Forks Trip"
We also offer river tube rentals on this trip for those who would like to guide themselves down the river. This 8 mile float takes about 2 1/2 hours if you don't stop along the way. Our rental package includes the use of one of our custom river tubes, a life jacket and shuttles to and from the river with our vans for only $29 per person. (kids under 12 are only $25) Saturdays in July and August are very popular and have an additional $3 per person charge. We have a few cooler tubes with ice that we rent for $20 & $25 depending on the size. Rentals are by reservation and meet at our base camp in Caratunk at 11:15am daily after June 22nd. Reservations are required! We are located in the Northwestern Maine town of Caratunk at 745, US Route 201. We are just south of the village on the side away from the river. Watch for our Bullfrog Adventures sign and the big Red tube!
"The Bubble Trip"
Our newest guided tubing adventure is nicknamed "The Bubble Trip". This
exciting adventure trip starts 8 miles up river from "The Forks" and
ends where our "Forks Trip begins. This is only offered as a guided trip
due to the strict timetables we must adhere to for a fun and safe trip.
We hike down the long staircase into the beautiful Kennebec River gorge and put in before
the water comes up from the daily release from the dam 4 miles upriver.
We must hand paddle thru a couple of short pools and then we run Carry Brook & Black
Brook Rapids at the lower water levels found before the release starts.
Black Brook Rapid would be a difficult class 4 rapid if we were to run
this at the start of the release! Do not attempt this! Once we are below
Black Brook rapid we will hang out and wait for the
water to catch up
to us. The river level rises quickly with a 3 to 5 foot increase in a
short span of time! We will ride on this leading edge of the water "The
Bubble" all the way downriver to the takeout in the Forks. When riding
the bubble there are nearly continuous rapids for at least 6 miles! This is a
GREAT trip! We meet at our office early in the morning at 8:30 a.m. by
reservation only. This guided tubing adventure includes a custom
designed river tube, helmet, life jacket, and shuttles to and from the
river. You should be at least 16 years old and good physical shape for
this trip. The price is $260 for up to 4 people and $65 for each additional person.
