Canoe or kayak the choice is yours for these fine day trips on the Penobscot River just north of Old Town, Maine. The river in this area is wide with a slow current meandering among the many islands of the Penobscot Indian Nation. This is a scenic section of the river with little signs of development along its shoreline. This is a fine trip for the entire family! This 3 hour guided canoe trip includes all equipment; a snack and shuttle back to your vehicle.

The "Head of tide" trip

Spring, Summer and Fall trips!

The Penobscot River in Bangor, Maine has some of the highest tides in the U.S. with a tidal range of about 16 feet! This is caused by the funnel shape of Penobscot Bay which magnifies the tide as you go up river. With this fun trip we start upriver from Bangor in the town of Eddington at the "Head of Tide". If we start the trip near high tide this is nearly all flat water (beginner level) for the 3 mile trip downriver to Bangor. If we start the trip near low tide there is a lot of quick water with 3 sections of rapids that are probably about an easy class 2 (intermediate level) rating. We often do this trip in the early evening arriving at the Bangor docks a little after sunset allowing us to enjoy the setting sun from the water. We take out near the Sea Dog Restaurant and Pub which is on the rivers edge and has great food and beer that is brewed on site in their microbrewery, its a great place to spend the evening! This trip normally takes an hour or two, we explore a few unique places along the way and play in the rapids if the tides are right.
