Piscataquis River Canoe Trip
Spring only or after heavy rains
This is one of Steve's favorite trips! We will be paddling a section of the Piscataquis River between the towns of Blanchard and Abbott. This trip can be done with canoes or kayaks the choice is yours. The trip will begin just below the village of Blanchard at a place called Barrows Falls. The falls flow through a beautiful slate gorge with high cliffs on either side. We will portage the more difficult first part of the falls, which can have a class 4 rating at spring levels and put in at the entrance to the gorge where the rating is an easy class 2. The river for the next 8 miles is a nearly continuous mix of class 1 & 2 rapids, whitewater and fast current. The Piscataquis River is quite shallow here and is more like a large stream, it is very remote with no roads until we near the take out. This trip is a fine spring canoe trip that is best suited for the intermediate level canoeist. This guided Maine canoe trip is about 8 miles and includes all equipment, shuttle and lunch. If you would like you can usually pick a few fiddlehead ferns along the shore to take home for supper, they are a delicious springtime delicacy !
Price is $220 for up to four people and $55 for each additional person
